The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has called off its five-week strike.<\/p>\n

This was announced after leadership of the Association met their members to convey the outcome of the association’s deliberations with government on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

UTAG withdrew their services to demand the payment of the research and book allowance.<\/p>\n

But a statement signed by the association\u2019s National President, Samuel Ofori Bekoe, said their decision follows \u201ca Memorandum of Understanding signed between UTAG and government on the payment of the 2013\/2014 Book and Research Allowance.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement also government showed \u201cwillingness to negotiate with UTAG on its conditions of service.\u201d<\/p>\n

The teachers had demanded a lump-sum payment for their book and research allowance for both last year and the impending academic year.<\/p>\n

National President of UTAG, Dr. Samuel Ofori Bekoe in an earlier interview with Citi News<\/strong> said: \u201cIf they say they are going to pay in September then we are taking for the past and current academic year. We are no longer going to pre-finance the activities for research\u201d.<\/p>\n
