{"id":4425,"date":"2014-03-07T06:42:35","date_gmt":"2014-03-07T06:42:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=4425"},"modified":"2014-03-07T06:47:49","modified_gmt":"2014-03-07T06:47:49","slug":"51-collapse-at-tema-independence-day-parade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/03\/51-collapse-at-tema-independence-day-parade\/","title":{"rendered":"51 collapse at Tema Independence Day Parade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/m62tkx7jje_ambulance.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4426 alignright\" alt=\"m62tkx7jje_ambulance\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/m62tkx7jje_ambulance.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"227\" \/><\/a>51 students col\u00adlapsed in the Tema Metropolis on Thursday morning during a parade to mark Ghana&#8217;s 57th inde\u00adpendence anniversary celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Out of the number, 49 were stu\u00addents drawn from various schools in the Ashaiman Municipality who had converged at the Mandela Park for the parade.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining two were from the Tema Metropolis, and the incident occurred while on parade at the Tema Sports Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>The student, together with some security personnel who also fainted, were immediately given medical\u00a0 attention by the Ghana Red Cross Society on standby.<\/p>\n<p>The parade was fastracked to avoid the previous year&#8217;s calamity and the celebrants of the 57th mile\u00adstone of the country&#8217;s independence at the parade grounds defied the heavy downpour that nearly marred the beauty of the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, 50 students collapsed at the Mandela Park, because\u00a0 &#8220;most of the students stood in the sun for too long on empty bellies&#8221; according to\u00a0 Mrs. Chris\u00adtian Amedume-Atiso of the Mother Love Club of the Ghana Red Cross Society.\u00a0 She further explained that some were as a result of the heavy boots\u00a0 they wore, which made it difficult for their blood to circulate.<\/p>\n<p>This time around, a Red Cross leader at Ashaiman has explained, the children collapsed as a result of excessive coldness and long hours of standing, which he said pre\u00advented the circulation of blood.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Ibrahim Baidoo, the Munici\u00adpal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ashaiman, in his address, called on parents to inculcate in their children, the values that would transform their mindsets to contribute towards the development of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Touching on the theme for the occasion, &#8220;Building a Better and Pros\u00adperous Ghana through Patriotism and National Unity&#8221;, the MCE called for total mobilization of available human resources, irrespective of political and ethnic affiliation, to con\u00adtribute towards building a better Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>He lamented the proliferation of gaming centres within the Ashaiman Municipality and disclosed that the assembly wras putting measures in place to clamp down on most of them so as to prevent possible criminal activities, and called on landlord and landladies to assist in that direction.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Credit: Daily Guide<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>51 students col\u00adlapsed in the Tema Metropolis on Thursday morning during a parade to mark Ghana&#8217;s 57th inde\u00adpendence anniversary celebration.
