{"id":4319,"date":"2014-03-06T12:00:32","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T12:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=4319"},"modified":"2014-03-06T12:00:32","modified_gmt":"2014-03-06T12:00:32","slug":"gold-industry-stakeholders-demand-stricter-regulations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/03\/gold-industry-stakeholders-demand-stricter-regulations\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold industry stakeholders demand stricter regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/gold.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4320\" alt=\"gold\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/gold-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Stakeholders in the gold mining industry are calling for the introduction of stricter rules and reforms in the industry to ensure a tighter regulation regime.<\/p>\n<p>Gold has been one of top three export earners for Ghana for years now.<\/p>\n<p>The industry has seen lots of small scale miners\u2019 troop in to engage in some illegal mining lately.<\/p>\n<p>The Gold Exporters Association is requesting that similar reforms that recently were introduced by the bank of Ghana be replicated by the gold industry.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana\u2019s only gold refinery, Asap Vasa, Henry Vroom Parker speaking to <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong> expressed his frustration at regulations in the industry indicating they are too loose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust as the Bank of Ghana has come out to streamline things, we are also expecting that in the minerals sector so that it will be very difficult for the foreigners to come into the country to come and mine illegally\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He continued saying, \u201cfor example when you go to India, it will be very difficult to trade in gold when you don\u2019t have the requisite documentation.
