The meeting between University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and government was inconclusive.

A meeting between the lecturers, Ministry of Education, Labour Ministry and other stakeholders was held on Thursday to resolve issues surrounding the payment of book and research allowance.

This is aimed at getting the lecturers to call of their strike and return to the classroom.

UTAG members have been on strike for a month over the delayed payment of their research and book allowance.

This situation has forced universities across the country to indefinitely postponed re-opening date.

Their colleague Polytechnic lecturers have called off their three-month long strike following a similar meeting with government on Tuesday.

Speaking to Citi News after the meeting, the president of UTAG, Dr. Samuel Ofori Bekoe said the discussions were “very fruitful…but we didn’t conclude.”

The parties involved in the discussion agreed to another meeting scheduled for next week Tuesday.

Next week’s meeting will give a final determination to the outstanding issues.

Mr. Bekoe clarified that UTAG members are not enthused about the withdrawal of their services and expressed the hope that the next meeting will give a final resolution to the matter.
