Sole Commissioner at the Judgement Debt Commission,\u00a0Mr Justice Yaw Appau\u00a0\u00a0has la\u00admented the continuous re\u00adfusal by the Ministry of Finance to present qualified people to answer ques\u00adtions about huge judgment debts paid by the state.<\/p>\n
He has therefore called on officials of the Finance Ministry to cooperate with the Commission, since it gave approval for the payment of judgement debts.<\/p>\n
Mr Appau said this after the Finance Ministry failed to appear before the Commission on Wednesday in Accra to answer questions over a judgement debt paid to one Nana Emmanuel Duku Wood, in the sum of GHC34,758,343,331.<\/p>\n
He said the continuous absence of officials from the Ministry would make the work of the Commission very difficult and urged all to cooperate.<\/p>\n
Mr Appau also called on the Attorney General\u2019s (AG) Department to brief the Commission on the operations of the CAP 30 pension scheme and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).<\/p>\n
This was after Madam Agnes Tawuiah, a former employee of the Ministry of Health had petitioned the Commission over her pension entitlements under the CAP 30 scheme, which she had not received.<\/p>\n
According to Madam Tawuiah, there was a delay in the payment of her pension entitlements under the CAP 30, but received the SSNIT entitlement, amounting to GHC4,000.<\/p>\n
Madam Tawuiah said, she took the money from SSNIT with the expectation that, the GHC 4,000 would be deducted from the CAP 30 entitlements, which amounted to GHC40,000.<\/p>\n
But, the pension entitlements under the CAP 30 never came, as according to the Ministry of Health, there was nothing to give after she opted for the SSNIT entitlements.<\/p>\n
Madam Tawuiah is therefore praying the Commission to help her get the entitlements; she was supposed to receive under the CAP 30.<\/p>\n
Mrs Helen Apkpene Ziwu, Chief State Attorney and Acting Solicitor General said the AG\u2019s department was yet to locate the documents on Madam Tawuiah\u2019s case.<\/p>\n
She however promised to continue looking for the documents, and furnish the Commission on her next appearance date.<\/p>\n
Mr Appau told Mrs Ziwu to further investigate the issue regarding the CAP 30 scheme and SSNIT, and brief the Commission on it, to enable it to decide on the petition by Madam Tawuiah.<\/p>\n
Mrs Ziwu also presented documents on the case relating to the de-confiscation of the Subin Timber Company Limited and AST against Daniel Darbo and the AG to the Commission.<\/p>\n
A representative of the Controller and Accountants General\u2019s Department who was billed to appear before the Commission failed to turn up.<\/p>\n
