Shops in the Central Business District (CBD) in Accra were closed\u00a0 on Thursday for a general \u00a0clean-up exercise.<\/p>\n
<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) ordered traders in the CBD to close their shops<\/a> and partake in a clean-up exercise to rid the city of filth.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n The Ghanaian capital, Accra has been engulfed in filth in recent times, which many believe caused the recent cholera outbreak.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n 6,000 cholera cases have been recorded in Accra so far<\/a>, \u00a0with 45 persons losing their lives as a result of the epidemic.<\/p>\n The exercise, which began at exactly 0400GMT, saw refuse trucks stationed at vantage points with AMA officers supervising the exercise.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Speaking to citifmonline.com,<\/b> traders at the Central Business District lauded \u00a0the initiative by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, but complained bitterly about the exorbitant prices they were paying and asked authorities to be considerate with them.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n
