Telecom operator Tigo appears to be the most preferred network for phone users who want to port.<\/p>\n
The latest report from the National Communications Authority (NCA) indicates that Tigo in the past year has recorded the highest number of phone users porting to its network.<\/p>\n
Tigo has in the past year also recorded a net gain of about 250,000 subscribers, out of the total number of 838,200 ported.<\/p>\n
This year marks three years since the introduction of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in Ghana.<\/p>\n
It is considered the most successful in the sub-region and one of the best globally.<\/p>\n
Vodafone in the past year recorded the second highest net gain in numbers ported.<\/p>\n
It recorded a net gain of about 228,000 subscribers.<\/p>\n
Apart from Tigo and Vodafone, the rest of the telcos recorded net losses in the numbers ported.<\/p>\n
MTN was the biggest loser after recording a net loss of about 402,000 subscribers, while Airtel recorded a net loss of about 59,000.<\/p>\n
Glo had a net loss of about 16,000 while Expresso lost some 858 subscribers.<\/b><\/p>\n
By the end of the third year of operation, about 1.65 million porting requests had been successfully completed since its launch in July 2011.<\/p>\n
In the third year, a total of about 838,000 subscribers successfully ported representing an 87% increase over the second year.<\/p>\n
The total number of completed ports from launch until 30th June 2014 is approximately 6% of the total active mobile numbers in Ghana.<\/p>\n
The report also indicates the speed of processing porting requests has increased significantly.<\/p>\n
In June 2014, the average time to complete the porting process after request submission was four minutes, sixteen seconds.<\/p>\n
Ninety one percent were completed in 5 minutes or less and 67% were completed in 2 minutes or less.<\/p>\n
