{"id":423,"date":"2014-02-16T11:53:06","date_gmt":"2014-02-16T11:53:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citi.hatuasolutions.com\/?p=423"},"modified":"2014-02-16T11:53:06","modified_gmt":"2014-02-16T11:53:06","slug":"tamale-poly-students-demonstrate-over-encroachment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/02\/tamale-poly-students-demonstrate-over-encroachment\/","title":{"rendered":"Tamale Poly students demonstrate over encroachment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citi.hatuasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/tamale-poly.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-424\" alt=\"Tamale poly\" src=\"http:\/\/citi.hatuasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/tamale-poly.jpg\" width=\"259\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a>Some irate students of the Tamale Polytechnic, on Saturday embarked on street demonstration, demanding from the Chief of Choggu who they claimed had encroached on the polytechnic\u2019s land, to desist from developing it, stressing that such practice was an affront to the development of the school.<\/p>\n<p>The demonstrators who took off from the school\u2019s campus, passed through various principal streets of the Tamale Metropolis with placards, some of whose inscriptions read; \u201cOur land, our future\u201d, \u201cOooo Chief, why take T.poly Land, \u201cTAMA, we want our land\u201d, \u201cOur land for palace, na lie\u201d, and \u201cWe no go gree, this one be too much,\u201d\u00a0 amidst drumming and dancing.<\/p>\n<p>The President of the Student\u2019s Representative Council, Adam Iddrisu Baba, presented separate petitions to the Sagnarigu District Chief Executive Alhaji Sorugudoo and Gulkpe Naa Alhassan Abdulair, pleading with them to intervene in the matter.<\/p>\n<p>He urged them to employ all legal means to stop and prevent the Choggu Naa and others who have planned to construct a palace on the land, noting that encroachers in the past had significantly reduced the land size of the school, making future expansion difficult.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe the SRC thought the Chiefs and people of our dear land should have been those protecting the lands of the Polytechnic for future generations to benefit. Unfortunately, they are those working very hard to reclaim those lands that were acquired some years before their enskinment\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the authorities of the Polytechnic had done its possible best to reclaim the land, and that it was time the student body joined hands with management and other stakeholders to stop the encroachment.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Sorugudoo assured the students to remain calm, stressing that the country was governed by the rule of law and would meet the traditional authorities to resolve the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed Rashad Abdulai, Secretary to the Gulkpe Naa, who received the petition on behalf of the Chief, promised that he would not hesitate to take any drastic action against any chief who encroached on the Polytechnic\u2019s land.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: GNA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some irate students of the Tamale Polytechnic, on Saturday embarked on street demonstration, demanding from the Chief of Choggu who they claimed had encroached on the polytechnic\u2019s land, to desist from developing it, stressing that such practice was an affront to the development of the school.
