{"id":4208,"date":"2014-03-05T20:53:48","date_gmt":"2014-03-05T20:53:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=4208"},"modified":"2014-03-05T20:53:48","modified_gmt":"2014-03-05T20:53:48","slug":"nigeria-women-join-men-to-sit-on-train-roof-as-fuel-scarcity-bites-harder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/03\/nigeria-women-join-men-to-sit-on-train-roof-as-fuel-scarcity-bites-harder\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria: Women join men to sit on train roof as fuel scarcity bites harder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/train-naija.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4209\" alt=\"train naija\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/train-naija-300x190.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/train-naija-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/train-naija.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The Nigerian Railway Corporation\u2019s (NRC) Taskforce for arresting passengers who sit on the roof of train coaches were on Wednesday stunned to see women among such passengers.<\/p>\n<p>The defiant women joined their male counterparts due to congestion in the coaches.<\/p>\n<p>The congestion witnessed in the train services since Monday due to the current fuel scarcity in the country was worsened by the reduction of train services from four to three.<\/p>\n<p>The NRC following the derailment of one of its Mass Transit Trains at Ikeja had reduced the services to three on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The corporation used four stocks to run its services from Ijoko in Ogun to Ido and Apapa in Lagos in the morning and back in the evening.<\/p>\n<p>However, one of the four stocks derailed reducing the services to three and which left hundreds of passengers stranded at the trains\u2019 stations.<\/p>\n<p>Defiant passengers, including women who are desperate to get to their destinations threw caution to the wind and climbed onto the coaches\u2019 roof.<\/p>\n<p>The members of the taskforce could not take any action because of the congestion that led to people sitting on the roof was beyond comprehension.<\/p>\n<p>The number of passengers on the roof was more than those in the coaches.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the NRC has said that it would restore normal services in the evening after removing the derailed train at Ikeja.
