The Education Ministry will today meet to discuss the refusal of universities to re-open due to the ongoing strike by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).

After indefinitely suspending the re-opening date for tertiary institutions over the outbreak of the Ebola virus in some West African countries, the Ministry later announced that universities can resume on August 27.

However, some universities have given indications they will also re-open when the UTAG strike is over.

UTAG members withdrew their services about a month ago following the refusal of government to pay their research and book allowance.

Their colleague lecturers in the Polytechnics have also been on strike for three months over the same issue.

The Ministry says the meeting is to discuss and provide solutions to the issues raised by the members of UTAG and POTAG.
