The Wa Central constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has successfully held its first ever constituency delegates conference to elect executives to lead the party.<\/p>\n
Since 1992, constituency elders have managed the affairs of the party without electing party officials.<\/p>\n
Over 550 delegates took part in the \u201cpeaceful election\u201d contrary to earlier speculations of possible violence among the candidates.<\/p>\n
In all, 52 candidates contested for the various positions under the supervision of the Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n
65-year-old incumbent, Alhaji Saidu Jamatu was re-elected as chairman to lead the Wa central constituency with Adams Iddrisu as his vice.<\/p>\n
The others are; Abdulai Adams, secretary, Buala Ahmed, deputy secretary, Alhaji Umar Yahaya, organizer and Abu Abdul Wahab deputy organizer.<\/p>\n
The rest are; Rashid Bickson, youth organizer, Hamidu Munkailu Yakubu Slinba, deputy youth organizer, Naeem Salifu treasurer and Habib Iddrisu Doodo deputy treasurer.<\/p>\n
Finally, Abdulai Fusina Martha was elected as women organizer with Alhassan Ubeida as her deputy while Mohammed Ahmed got the nod to be the propaganda secretary and Mohammed Mumuni Tando as his deputy.<\/p>\n
Eight others were selected to assist the executives in the running of the party in the area.<\/p>\n
Addressing the conference after their election, the chairman thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in them.<\/p>\n
He said he and his other colleague executive will work hard increase to the fortune of the NDC in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we have witnessed today is not just a victory for us the executives. It is an opportunity and a challenge for us to try to do the things we could not do to win more votes to retain our beloved party in power,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The chairman appealed the newly elected executives and their supporters to jubilate in moderation, burry their differences and work in a united front.<\/p>\n
He said it is only through that they can get the support of floating voters in the constituency.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet us remain calm and play our individual and collective roles so we can be the best alternative for Ghanaians,\u201d the chairman pleaded.<\/p>\n
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Dr. Alhaji Rashid Hassan Pelpuo was happy leadership of the party in the area allowed candidates to compete for the first time.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cThis is a very unique situation in which people who sought to win political positions tested and we have winners and losers. I am very happy that at least everybody has tasted what it means to contest for political office. They have gotten what exactly it means to be a representative of the people.\u201d<\/p>\n
He was optimistic that the new executives \u201cwill work to achieve the very fundamental goal which is winning the 2016 elections.\u201d<\/p>\n
