{"id":411634,"date":"2018-03-21T16:00:07","date_gmt":"2018-03-21T16:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=411634"},"modified":"2018-03-21T15:22:32","modified_gmt":"2018-03-21T15:22:32","slug":"385-communities-ue-declared-open-defecation-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/03\/385-communities-ue-declared-open-defecation-free\/","title":{"rendered":"385 communities in U\/E declared Open Defecation Free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>385 out of 1,990 communities of the Upper East Region have been certified Open Defecation Free through the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) model.<\/p>\n<p>The CLTS model, which encourages communities to use local materials to construct latrines was adopted in 2015 and triggered the certification of 15 communities as open defecation free, with 42 more being certified in 2016.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-411643 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/upper-east-communities-declared-open-defecation-free-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"498\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/upper-east-communities-declared-open-defecation-free-3.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/upper-east-communities-declared-open-defecation-free-3-300x195.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a ceremony to unveil the 2017 Upper East Regional Open Defecation Free League table in Bolgatnaga, Acting Regional Environmental Office Juventius Asayuure said, the region was on course to end open defecation by 2019.<\/p>\n<p>On the league table, the Garu-Tempane District came first, followed by the Binduri, Bawku West, Kassena-Nankana West and Bongo Districts.<\/p>\n<p>The rest are the Builsa South, Pusiga, Builsa North, and Talensi Districts.
