{"id":408817,"date":"2018-03-11T07:12:53","date_gmt":"2018-03-11T07:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=408817"},"modified":"2018-03-11T17:30:44","modified_gmt":"2018-03-11T17:30:44","slug":"kwabenya-jailbreak-another-fugitive-arrested","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/03\/kwabenya-jailbreak-another-fugitive-arrested\/","title":{"rendered":"Kwabenya jailbreak: Another escapee arrested near Asamankese"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the escapees in the January 21 Kwabenya jailbreak, which resulted in the killing of a police officer, has been arrested.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect, Emmanuel Kotey, was arrested by police at Asikasu near Asamankese in the Lower West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;32MbNlqJYbIRUkLJHqGrnsaiuYIcLEHG&#8221;]He escaped after assailants attacked the Kwabenya Police Station, killing the officer on duty, and freeing cell inmates.<\/p>\n<p>According to ASP Ebenezer Tetteh the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer who confirmed the arrest to <strong>Citi News,<\/strong> arrangements are currently being made for the suspect to be transferred to the police headquarters in Accra.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He was arrested\u00a0as a result of police-community collaboration and we are handing him over to Accra as soon as possible to continue with the police investigations\u00a0because the offence was committed in Accra,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Seven inmates escaped, but four of them have now been rearrested.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the escapees were jailed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/02\/14\/two-kwabenya-cell-escapees-jailed-30-months\/\"><strong>30 months<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0after they pleaded guilty to conspiracy to escape from lawful custody and escaping from lawful custody.<\/p>\n<p>The third escapee, Kofi Darko, pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n<p>The Accra Police Command has also picked up Kofi Seshie, aged 28, the man believed to have shot dead the policeman.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Drug arrests<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two other persons, aged 30 years and 40 years, were arrested within the Akuapem Mampong area for drug peddling.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-408830\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Drug-suspects.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Drug-suspects.jpg 600w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Drug-suspects-300x207.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The information was that they were peddling narcotic drugs. Based on that information, police in Mampong proceeded quickly to the location and got them arrested.
