Good for Kenya. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Ilq5oEcoaE\">pic.twitter.com\/Ilq5oEcoaE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 John Dramani Mahama (@JDMahama) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JDMahama\/status\/972447430527635456?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 10, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga spoke on national TV on Friday after holding their first public meeting since the poll.<\/p>\n<p>President Kenyatta was sworn in for a second term last November after he won an election re-run in October, which Mr Odinga had boycotted.<\/p>\n<p>In the election aftermath, about 150 people were killed and Mr Odinga subsequently swore himself in as the \u201cpeople\u2019s president\u201d and refused to recognise election winner, Mr Kenyatta, as head of state.<\/p>\n<p>They had both dismissed all calls for talks, from Kenyans and foreign diplomats but in their joint address, President Kenyatta referred to Mr Odinga as his \u201cbrother\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_408400\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-408400\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-408400\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Raila-Odinga-R-had-refused-to-recognise-Uhuru-Kenyatta-L-as-president.jpg\" alt=\"Raila Odinga (R) had refused to recognise Uhuru Kenyatta (L) as president\" width=\"660\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Raila-Odinga-R-had-refused-to-recognise-Uhuru-Kenyatta-L-as-president.jpg 660w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Raila-Odinga-R-had-refused-to-recognise-Uhuru-Kenyatta-L-as-president-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-408400\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Raila Odinga (R) had refused to recognise Uhuru Kenyatta (L) as president<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p align=\"justify\">Thier\u00a0meeting notably occurred\u00a0ahead of a visit by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who is expected to land in Nairobi for a three-day diplomatic tour.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Mr Mahama, has some stake in the matter as he led the Commonwealth observer mission to monitor the country&#8217;s polls.<\/p>\n<p>He faced some\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/09\/02\/kenya-polls-stop-bashing-mahama-other-observers-akwetey\/\">ridicule and criticism<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0after the Supreme Court overturned the results of the election following alleged malpractices, as free and fair.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Mahama, alongside other observer\u00a0groups, had declared the August 8, 2017 elections which the incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta won, as free and fair, despite the irregularities alleged by Kenya\u2019s opposition leader, Raila Odinga.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President John Mahama has lauded Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga&#8217;s attempts at reconciliation following last year\u2019s bitterly contested election.
