{"id":40837,"date":"2014-08-21T11:37:09","date_gmt":"2014-08-21T11:37:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=40837"},"modified":"2014-08-21T14:32:25","modified_gmt":"2014-08-21T14:32:25","slug":"ama-in-control-of-cholera-outbreak-health-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/08\/ama-in-control-of-cholera-outbreak-health-director\/","title":{"rendered":"AMA in control of Cholera &#8211; Health Director"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p>The Public Health Director at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Dr Simpson Boateng, says the city authorities are intensifying efforts to control the spread of Cholera in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities at the Korle Bu Teaching Polyclinic, on Wednesday, ordered health facilities in the Greater Accra region<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/20\/we-cant-admit-any-more-cholera-patients-korle-bu-polyclinic\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> to stop referring cholera cases to the facility<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The hospital said it is over stretched and cannot admit any more cholera patients.<\/p>\n<p>The Korle Bu Polytechnic has since asked for a 72-hour break to decongest the facility<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <b>Citi News<\/b>, Dr. Simpson said spaces were available at other health facilities, adding that, the AMA had the situation under control. <b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf \u00a0Korle bu and La are saying they do not have the space it doesn\u2019t mean the other health facilities do not have space,\u201dhe explained.<\/p>\n<p>He also attributed the congestion at the various hospitals to the \u201cimproper distribution\u201d of cholera patients to those hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the distribution of the patients is also another thing. It is not proportionately distributed,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The number of cholera cases in the Greater Accra Region has<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/19\/5000-cholera-cases-recorded-in-g-accra-45-dead-since-july\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/19\/5000-cholera-cases-recorded-in-g-accra-45-dead-since-july\/\" target=\"_blank\">increased from 3,600 to 5,000 with 45 deaths since July this year<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/19\/5000-cholera-cases-recorded-in-g-accra-45-dead-since-july\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>with cases also recorded in the Central and Ashanti Regions<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Benjamin Epton Owusu\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Public Health Director at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Dr Simpson Boateng, says the city authorities are intensifying efforts to control the spread of Cholera in the region.
