The Accra Regional Police Command has threatened that it will shoot with the aim of killing any armed robber who attempts to engage the Police in a gunfight.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News<\/strong> after police personnel shot and killed two robbers in Accra on Friday, the Regional Commander, DCOP George Alex Mensah said the Serice will do all it takes to protect its officers and the citizenry.<\/p>\n \u201cWe shot to protect ourselves. They engaged the Police in a shootout and I don\u2019t want to lose any of my men. I\u2019m not ready to lose a single officer. One of them [Police] had a wound in the arm, he was shot in the arm and this is about the second time that we have killed two people in an exchange,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n DCOP Mensah added that the \u201c[Shooting to kill] has always been the approach of the police. If you try and fight the police with arms, the police will fight back.\u201d<\/p>\n The deceased, identified as Raymond, alias Dragon, and Kwame alias Mafia, were part of a syndicate that recently robbed a fuel station at Haatso.<\/p>\n The Police believe the two were also part\u00a0of the group that carried out an attack on the Kwabenya District Police station earlier this year, which led to some 7 inmates escaping lawful custody and the killing of an officer on duty, Inspector\u00a0Emmanuel Ashilevi.<\/p>\n The Regional Police command has sent a strong signal that it will deal fiercely\u00a0with robbers going forward.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, three suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent cases of armed robbery attacks in the country.<\/p>\n Two of them snatched cars in Kumasi, while one is said to have been involved in the recent robbery attack on Royal Motors in the North Industrial Area.<\/p>\n ‘Wave of robbery’ <\/strong><\/p>\n There appears to be a heightened wave of robbery attacks in the country with this week being some of the worst cases reported in weeks.<\/p>\n A number of incidents have involved brazen attacks by the robbers on individuals organisations in broad daylight.<\/p>\n
