{"id":404796,"date":"2018-02-27T12:16:11","date_gmt":"2018-02-27T12:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=404796"},"modified":"2018-02-27T17:15:32","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T17:15:32","slug":"ashongman-community-sponsored-police-post-abandoned-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/02\/ashongman-community-sponsored-police-post-abandoned-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Ashongman: Community-sponsored police post abandoned [Photos]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Residents of Pure water, a community at\u00a0Ashongman in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, are frustrated over the failure of the Ghana Police Service to post personnel to the area after they put up a police post with their own resources.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2017, <strong>Citi News<\/strong> brought to the fore the constant harassment of residents by armed robbers.<\/p>\n<p>The traumatized residents, having identified the lack of a police post, mobilized resources and put up the facility to ensure that police arrives in good time anytime they are attacked.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-404851\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Ashongman-abandoned-police-post-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1032\" height=\"774\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Ashongman-abandoned-police-post-1.jpeg 1032w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Ashongman-abandoned-police-post-1-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Ashongman-abandoned-police-post-1-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Ashongman-abandoned-police-post-1-1024x768.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1032px) 100vw, 1032px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, six months after its completion, no police officer has been deployed to man the post. This, the residents say is disappointing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe community has been able to put up this edifice, what else can we do? There is an MP, there are assembly people. What are they doing? It\u2019s a wake-up call to our leaders. They shouldn\u2019t just be in their V8s and comfortable offices. But finally, after the over GHS 100,000\u00a0edifice was completed, it has been left to waste away.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-404848\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Ashongman-abandoned-police-post-5.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1032\" height=\"774\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Ashongman-abandoned-police-post-5.jpeg 1032w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Ashongman-abandoned-police-post-5-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Ashongman-abandoned-police-post-5-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Ashongman-abandoned-police-post-5-1024x768.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1032px) 100vw, 1032px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He told\u00a0<strong>Citi News<\/strong> several visits to the District and National Headquarters of the Police to impress upon them to send officers to the area have been unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe went to the Kwabenya police station and the Commander told us he was posted only a week ago and the former Commander didn\u2019t tell him anything. He told us to bring pictures of the place and that he will visit the place and that is the end. They don\u2019t know how long they have to wait to get personnel deployed to the place. Initially, the excuse was that you are not under Kwabenya, you\u2019re under Abokobi and it was back and forth. Eventually, we were told we are under Kwabenya. Engaging Kwabenya has been a case of go and come to the extent that we have escalated this to the Headquarters. They came to assess the place; generally they were happy with it.
