{"id":40462,"date":"2014-08-20T09:55:02","date_gmt":"2014-08-20T09:55:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=40462"},"modified":"2014-08-20T10:08:44","modified_gmt":"2014-08-20T10:08:44","slug":"stop-using-media-to-spread-fear-and-panic-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/08\/stop-using-media-to-spread-fear-and-panic-mahama\/","title":{"rendered":"Stop using media to spread fear and panic &#8211; Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President John Dramani Mahama has condemned the irresponsible use of social media to spread fear and panic on the\u00a0Ebola disease in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>About 1,000 persons have died from the deadly disease so far.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts have however been intensified to contain the disease in the four affected African countries; Nigeria, Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service(GHS) are working assiduously \u00a0to prevent a possible outbreak of the disease in Ghana while the Education Ministry has also<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"> <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/12\/re-opening-of-tertiary-institutions-postponed-over-ebola\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">asked all tertiary institutions to postpone their re-opening date<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some have however alleged that Ghanaian health officials are concealing the recorded cases of Ebola in the country.<\/p>\n<p>But President Mahama dismissed the claims, describing them as \u201cunacceptable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in Komenda in the Central region, President Mahama asked &#8220;well meaning&#8221; Ghanaians to speak-up against what he terms the irresponsible use of social media to spread such false information.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me take this opportunity to condemn the irresponsible use of social media, it is becoming a factor that is absolutely unacceptable.<\/p>\n<p>These panic messages that seek to sow fear in our people is totally unacceptable and I call on our traditional leaders and our religious leaders to preach against it,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President John Dramani Mahama has condemned the irresponsible use of social media to spread fear and panic on the\u00a0Ebola disease in Ghana.
