President Nana Akufo-Addo led hundreds of mourners who converged at the forecourt of the State House to bid farewell to renowned Scientist and Mathematician, Professor Francis Allotey.<\/p>\n
Reading a tribute on behalf of the government, the Minister of Environment Science and Technology Professor Frimpong Boateng described Prof. Allotey as a “fiercely loyal Ghanaian.”<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was patriotic and fiercely loyal to Ghana. This was a scientist whose knowledge and service were sought after throughout the world. He could have offered his services to other countries for higher financial gain but he chose country over gain, service to humanity over service to self.”<\/p>\n
“Today we pay respect to an icon of learning colossus. If we were to do a list of persons for a science and technology hall of fame, there will be no doubt in anybody\u2019s mind that prof. Allotey will make it to the top of that list,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

His final funeral rites are to be held at the Saltpond St. John The Baptist Catholic School Park.<\/p>\n
Also present at the pre-burial service were\u00a0Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumai; former presidents; Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama; members of the Council of State, Ministers, Clergy, Ghanaian academia, the diplomatic Corp, Chiefs from the Central Region and Ghanaians from all walks of life.<\/p>\n
Born in Saltpond in 1932 Prof. Allotey was the first to introduce computer education in Ghana.<\/p>\n

He became a global sensation with his work on Soft X-ray spectroscopy widely known principle named after him – the ‘Allotey Formalism’.<\/p>\n
He served on several academic boards both locally and internationally.<\/p>\n
