{"id":403559,"date":"2018-02-23T08:50:55","date_gmt":"2018-02-23T08:50:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=403559"},"modified":"2018-02-23T08:58:01","modified_gmt":"2018-02-23T08:58:01","slug":"dont-politicize-nhis-issues-mp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/02\/dont-politicize-nhis-issues-mp\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t politicize NHIS issues &#8211; MP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Deputy Minority Spokesperson on Health, Dr. Robert Kuganab-Lem, has advised that discussions on the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, must not be politicized.<\/p>\n<p>This he said would ensure that the Scheme is put on the right footing to deliver quality healthcare to Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;mTxL4DrOd6EhcA3vmHbHML3iHd8I6tTz&#8221;]\u201cNational Health Insurance Scheme was instituted to resolve the issues of families when it comes to access to primary healthcare, and was certain to improve healthcare,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Making a statement on healthcare as citizens&#8217; right, Dr. Kuganab-Lem indicated that, the NHIS if properly managed would be of immense benefit to the country.<\/p>\n<p>The National Health Insurance Scheme [NHIS], was established under the National Health Insurance Act 2003, Act 650, in 2003, to provide quality healthcare services to Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>The National Democratic Congress NDC],in 2017 accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of lying its way into power, with\u00a0exaggerated promises concerning the state of the <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/01\/25\/npp-lied-about-nhis-to-win-power-kofi-adams\/\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>National Health Insurance Scheme<\/strong><\/span><\/a> (NHIS).<\/p>\n<p>The National Organizer of the NDC, Kofi Adams, said the NPP in the health section of its 2016 manifesto, claimed that the previous NDC administration had\u00a0collapsed the scheme in their eight-years stay in office.<\/p>\n<p>The Scheme has had financial challenges as it owes many service providers millions of cedis.
