The national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko has revealed that the party’s steering committee ordered the acting Director of Communications was ordered to proceed on leave.<\/p>\n
He said it was \u201cpurely administrative decision.”<\/p>\n
\u201c… the party’s steering committee [subsequently] took the decision to make some appointments as deputy directors of communication for the party,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
Addressing a news conference on Tuesday to explain the recent happenings in the party, Mr. Afoko said the decision to beef up the communication team through the appointments of new Deputy Communication Directors was thoroughly discussed at the steering committee meeting.<\/p>\n
The NPP’s \u00a0General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong, on Friday asked the acting Communications Director, Perry Okudzeto, to proceed on a two-year accumulated leave.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Mr. Agyepong was then accused of failing to follow laid down procedures for dealing with such situations and.<\/span><\/p>\n He was also accused of running a “one-man show” at the party\u2019s headquarters.<\/span><\/p>\n Citi News<\/strong>\u2019 Richard Dela Sky who sat through the press conference reported that the NPP’s national chairman in his address accused the former party director of Finance and Administration, Opare Hammond of\u00a0 financial impropriety.<\/p>\n \u201cThere have been evidence of expenditure made but nothing to show for it; funding for the party have also not been properly handled,\u201d Mr. Afoko revealed.<\/p>\n Mr. Afoko mentioned recent internal wranglings within the NPP stating that\u00a0such actions were in violation of the party\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n \u201cAll these things are going a long way to undermine the integrity and image of the party and bring the party into disrepute,\u2019\u2019 he pointed out.<\/p>\n Meanwhile political commentators have expressed fears that the ongoing infighting could spell doom for the party ahead of the 2016 general elections.
