{"id":398521,"date":"2018-02-05T11:08:23","date_gmt":"2018-02-05T11:08:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=398521"},"modified":"2018-02-05T11:08:23","modified_gmt":"2018-02-05T11:08:23","slug":"gcb-bank-absorbs-70-ut-capital-banks-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/02\/gcb-bank-absorbs-70-ut-capital-banks-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"GCB Bank absorbs 70% of UT, Capital banks&#8217; staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GCB Bank has absorbed about seventy (70) percent of the permanent staff of defunct UT and Capital Banks.<\/p>\n<p>It follows the completion of the full integration of the systems of the two banks.<\/p>\n<p>A statement on the issue and copied to\u00a0<strong>Citi Business News<\/strong>\u00a0said, \u201cAs a result of the integration, staff numbers have been rationalized and GCB has absorbed almost 70 percent of the permanent staff of those banks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, GCB Bank has\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/index.php\/2017\/09\/12\/contract-of-ut-capital-bank-workers-terminated\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dispensed<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>the services of contract staff of the two banks.<\/p>\n<p>According to GCB Bank, \u201cDeparting employees are to be paid a month\u2019s salary in lieu of notice plus any earned leave since August last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement added, \u201cThe Bank in undertaking this exercise was mindful of its economic and social impact and therefore went to great lengths to strike the right balance in the interest of all stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Bank of Ghana in August 2017,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/index.php\/2017\/08\/14\/ut-capital-bank-collapse-gcb-to-the-rescue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allowed GCB Bank to assume management<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0of UT and Capital Banks in a purchase and assumption agreement.<\/p>\n<p>This also came on the back of the fact that the two banks faced serious liquidity challenges at the time which affected the continuous existence and the financial industry altogether.<\/p>\n<p>Citi Business News understands that the integration included the consolidation of core banking applications, procedures and processes, the training of staff and the streamlining of the branch network.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile GCB says it has retained 22 out of the 53 branches of the defunct institutions based on their location and accessibility to customers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Pius Amihere Eduku\/citibusinessnews.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GCB Bank has absorbed about seventy (70) percent of the permanent staff of defunct UT and Capital Banks.
