You are not giving us any figures. You are not telling us the number of jobs that were created within the various sectors within the value chain,&#8221; the NDC MP told <strong>Citi News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;ckEHRcowXZiIp4jsZlwzRU77scjuRZXH&#8221;]Mr. Quarshigah also questioned the substance of the jobs created, saying &#8220;if you are talking about people who were farm hands and all that, are these sustainable jobs?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His comments followed the Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Afriyie Akoto&#8217;s announcement last week that 745,000 jobs had been created under the first phase of the programme with the caveat that the jobs were \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/02\/02\/745000-unofficial-jobs-created-under-planting-for-food-minister\/\"><strong>unofficial jobs<\/strong><\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Minister explained to the media that the jobs were created in rural areas, and were essentially not taxable, and did not contribute to pension funds following the earlier skepticism that met the announced figure.<\/p>\n<p>The figures were based on the number of additional inputs as well as improved seeds and fertilizers supplied to participating farmers in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond Mr.\u00a0Quarshigah&#8217;s concerns, the\u00a0General Agricultural Workers&#8217;\u00a0Union\u00a0(GAWU), also opined that government\u2019s estimate of 745,000 jobs provided under the Planting for Food and Jobs programme <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/02\/03\/prove-745000-jobs-claim-gawu-agric-ministry\/\">might be exaggerated<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The Union\u2019s General Secretary, Edward Kareweh, contended that the figure provided by the government would have to be scrutinized.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lack of understanding<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the contentions with the figures from government, a Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Sagre Bambangi, said those doubting the number of jobs created by the programme needed to acquaint\u00a0themselves with the situation on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the skeptics &#8220;have not been able to take time to appreciate the process involved in agricultural production.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_398293\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-398293\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-398293\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Sagre-Bambangi.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Sagre-Bambangi.png 600w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Sagre-Bambangi-300x197.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-398293\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Sagre Bambangi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;In the course of agricultural production, we have input delivery, and in the course of the input delivery, a lot of stakeholders are involved and all these create jobs. For instance, if you are going to procure seeds and fertilizer, you are creating jobs for people who will haul the seeds and fertilizer.
