{"id":398259,"date":"2018-02-05T06:10:25","date_gmt":"2018-02-05T06:10:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=398259"},"modified":"2018-02-05T06:32:23","modified_gmt":"2018-02-05T06:32:23","slug":"franklin-cudjoe-backs-ofori-attas-legal-action-chraj","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/02\/franklin-cudjoe-backs-ofori-attas-legal-action-chraj\/","title":{"rendered":"Franklin Cudjoe backs Ofori-Atta\u2019s legal action against CHRAJ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President of policy think tank, IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has defended a decision by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to commence legal action against the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), over aspects of the institution\u2019s report on the $2.25 billion bond saga which somewhat indicted the Minister.<\/p>\n<p>According to Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid, Ofori-Atta will soon go to court to compel CHRAJ to overturn some declarations in its report released after it was petitioned by the Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Brogya Genfi, to investigate the matter.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_382543\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-382543\" style=\"width: 472px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-382543 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Ken-Ofori-Atta.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"472\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Ken-Ofori-Atta.jpg 472w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Ken-Ofori-Atta-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 472px) 100vw, 472px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-382543\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;lfsFZABmXsHhfqTLLQwUfkCdlvUuZ84U&#8221;]Genfi, in April 2017, petitioned CHRAJ to investigate the $2.25 billion bond issued by government, citing possible conflict of interest in the deal with regards to the Finance Minister and his alleged acquaintances, whom Genfi claimed had bought the bond at convenient rates.<\/p>\n<p>CHRAJ, after months of investigations, said Ofori-Atta breached certain processes in the issuance of the bond but cleared him of all claims of conflict of interest.<\/p>\n<p>CHRAJ also stated in its report that, Ofori-Atta failed to declare all his assets; a claim government officials have rubbished.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing his view on the matter during discussions on <strong>Citi FM<\/strong>\u2019s news analysis programme, <strong>The Big Issue <\/strong>on Saturday, Franklin Cudjoe said Ofori-Atta\u2019s intended court action is long overdue, saying it will help clear his image.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that the Finance Minister has legitimate reasons to do so because they are an important institution. And for them to come out with such a report and then make other comments which incidentally has gained political capital for the NDC, lowers the stature in a way, of the Finance Minister, and I think he [Finance Minister] needs to redeem that aspect of what is becoming a campaign against his person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo for me, I think he should have done that much longer. But let me say that these things as they happen also go to strengthen our democracy\u2026so the Finance Minister should go to court and I support his action,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Minority pushes for Ofori-Atta\u2019s dismissal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the back of the CHRAJ report, the Minority called on President Akufo-Addo to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/01\/31\/minority-pushes-for-ofori-attas-dismissal-over-2-25bn-bond\/\"><strong>sack the Finance Minister<\/strong><\/a>, for breaching aspects of the law in the issuance of the bond.<\/p>\n<p>They have also suggested that the Finance Minister could alternatively resign over the matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe serve notice that in\u00a0the event that the President, Nana Akufo-Addo does not exercise appropriate judgment, we will initiate an action of censurship against the Minister.
