The Embassy of Israel on Monday, 29 January, marked the International Holocaust Memorial Day under the theme \u201cWHO WILL CARRY THE MEMORY ON?\u201d<\/p>\n
The Ambassador of the State of Israel to Ghana, H. E. Ami Mehl, who is also the son of a Holocaust survivor, described the challenges of preserving the memory of Holocaust. \u201cIt was difficult to grow up in a family where you know something happened, it was difficult to live with the silence\u2026, you do not forget or forgive, you just continue to live because there is no other way\u201d, he said. H. E. Ami Mehl used the occasion to call on all human beings to fight against racism and hatred for one another.<\/p>\n

In her remarks, H.E. Christine Evans-Clock, UN Resident Coordinator in Ghana, called on all to \u201cconfront the normalization of hatred and the issue of treating someone as the other because of their differences.\u201d<\/p>\n
H. E. Christoph Retzlaff, the German Ambassador to Ghana also stressed on the need to expose all forms of prejudices. He emphasized that, racist ideologies cannot be justified under any circumstance and called for respect for all humanity.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s International Holocaust Remembrance Day commemoration brought together members of the Diplomatic Community, government officials, some notable religious leaders, and friends from the media.<\/p>\n
The event started with a Christian prayer by Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah, the Apostle General of the Royalhouse Chapel International and ended with a Jewish prayer by Rabbi Noach Majesky with a call on all humanity to embrace peace.<\/p>\n

Other activities to mark the day included a lightning of candles in memory the victims of Holocaust and a screen viewing of the testimony of one of the brave women who gave birth at a Concentration Camp.<\/p>\n
The United Nations General Assembly through a Resolution in 2005 designated January 27 of every year as International Holocaust Remembrance Day to be observed by member states in memory of victims of the Holocaust.<\/p>\n

Approximately 6 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis between 1939 and 1945, alongside a myriad of other groups they considered undesirable or dangerous, including the mentally and physically handicapped, the deaf, homosexuals, Roma or Gypsies, political dissidents or intellectuals, and many more.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s commemoration marks the 73rd anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz on site at the former Nazi death camp in Oswiecim, southern Poland.<\/p>\n
