{"id":395821,"date":"2018-01-28T06:00:33","date_gmt":"2018-01-28T06:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=395821"},"modified":"2018-01-27T18:50:25","modified_gmt":"2018-01-27T18:50:25","slug":"hull-banksy-mural-cleaned-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/01\/hull-banksy-mural-cleaned-off\/","title":{"rendered":"Hull Banksy mural &#8216;should be cleaned off&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">A mural believed to be by artist Banksy should be removed from a disused Hull bridge, a local councillor has claimed.<\/p>\n<p>The stencilled design depicts a child carrying a wooden sword with a pencil attached to the end.<\/p>\n<p>Images of the mural were shared on Banksy&#8217;s official Instagram account on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative councillor John Abbott said Banky&#8217;s work did not compare with &#8220;real art&#8221; in the city gallery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think that should be cleaned off. It should be photographed and the photograph kept because Banksy is not without talent,&#8221; said Mr Abbott.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But to compare Banksy for example with some of the real art in the\u00a0Ferens Art Gallery, which is quite mind-bogglingly brilliant at times, is, shall we say, to judge by two different sets of standards.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said graffiti of any kind placed on walls should be removed.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/5115\/production\/_99775702_banksy1.jpg\" alt=\"People by the bridge\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><\/figure>\n<p>The elusive street artist posted two photos of the permanently raised bridge, situated on Scott Street in the Wincolmlee area.<\/p>\n<p>People have been visiting the area since news of the artwork was announced leading to the area round the bridge being fenced off.<\/p>\n<p>One visitor described seeing the mural &#8220;as a dream come true&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve followed Banksy&#8217;s work for many years,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Never thought I&#8217;d see one and actually stood in front of it. You find them in Dubai and places like that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>BBC Arts Editor Will Gompertz described Banksy as a &#8220;good artist and a genius PR man&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think you can remove it,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think the whole point of Banksy&#8217;s work is they are what is called site specific&#8230; they work because of the places they&#8217;ve been put and if you remove the location the work loses its power.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/9F35\/production\/_99775704_fence976.jpg\" alt=\"Fences in front of bridge\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><\/figure>\n<p>-Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A mural believed to be by artist Banksy should be removed from a disused Hull bridge, a local councillor has claimed.
