"gavel"The presiding Judge handling the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) case, Mrs. Justice Afia S. Asare Botwe, has warned against the use of delay tactics to prolong the hearing by lawyers of the accused persons in the case.

She said: You people can’t keep this case hanging for days” and therefore requested lawyers for the first accused, Philip Akpeena Assibit and Abuga Pele to desist from tactics that are likely to prolong the case beyond expectations.

She also urged both the lawyers and witnesses to show respect in their submissions in court.

The judge raised this concern when the GYEEDA case involving the first accused, Philip Akpeena Assibit, Chief Executive Officer of Goodwill International Consultancy Firm and Abuga Pele, former national Coordinator of GYEEDA and current Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga constituency in the Upper East region resumed on Tuesday March 4, 2014.

Her caution became necessary when lead counsel for the first accused, Lawyer Raymond Bagnabu appeared repetitive during cross examination of the first witness, Nuru Hamidan, a former Deputy National GYEEDA Coordinator then in charge of operations and administration.

Continuing with his cross examination, Lawyer Raymond Bagnabu put it to Nuru Hamidan that he was a signatory to some official correspondences between GYEEDA and Philip Akpeena Assibit which resulted into several contracts awarded to Goodwill International Consultancy firm.

Nuru Hamidan who previously denied knowledge of signing such official correspondences confirmed it when some of the documents were tendered in evidence.

Nuru Hamidan also confirmed that Goodwill International Consultancy Firm rendered consultancy services to GYEEDA.

Some of the documents referred to by Lawyer Raymond Bagnabu included a purported letter from the office of the President dated July 18, 2012, a document covering a collaborative partner’s payment between GYEEDA and Goodwill International Consultancy Firm dated March 19, 2013.

He also produced a document dated December 8, 2011 which confirmed that then Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Kofi Humado at the Meet the Press series announced that government had secured US 65 million facilitated by Goodwill International Consultancy Firm for GYEEDA.

He also implied that Secretary to the cabinet confirmed the US 65 million grant secured for the GYEEDA under the auspices of Goodwill International Consultancy Firm.

Lawyer Raymond Bagnabu told the witness, Nuru Hamidan who currently is the Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti region that he corrupted the facts of the US 65 million grant which Goodwill International Consultancy secured for the implementation of some of GYEEDA’s new models.

Nuru Hamidan incessantly in most instances responded in opposition to some of the issues raised by Lawyer Raymond Bagnabu.

The case has been adjourned to March 5, 2014 in the Economic Crimes Division of the High Court.
