{"id":391881,"date":"2018-01-16T07:17:53","date_gmt":"2018-01-16T07:17:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=391881"},"modified":"2018-01-16T13:26:51","modified_gmt":"2018-01-16T13:26:51","slug":"masloc-cars-rot-away-as-price-re-negotiation-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/01\/masloc-cars-rot-away-as-price-re-negotiation-continues\/","title":{"rendered":"MASLOC cars &#8216;rot&#8217; away as price re-negotiation continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Citi News<\/strong> can confirm that the vehicles handed over to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in 2016 on hire purchase by the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre [MASLOC], have been left at the mercy of the weather.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicles, comprising a hundred 33-seater buses and 250 saloon cars, are currently parked at the premises of National Security near the Accra International Conference Centre.<\/p>\n<p>MASLOC, during the John Mahama administration, signed an agreement with MAC Autos and Spare Parts Ghana Limited to procure the cars at an agreed amount of GHc62.2 million for subsequent sale on hire purchase arrangement to GPRTU.<\/p>\n<p>But negotiations on the payment terms for the vehicles between GPTRU and MASLOC, was inconclusive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-391889 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/masloc-cars-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1008\" height=\"756\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/masloc-cars-2.jpg 1008w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/masloc-cars-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/masloc-cars-2-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1008px) 100vw, 1008px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> on the matter, Chief Executive of MASLOC, Steven Amoah, assured that the cars would be distributed in the first quarter of the year after a re-negotiation of the price is concluded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026We were trying to renegotiate the prices and other terms with the suppliers so that we will have a good deal for whoever would have the opportunity to use the car so that they can also pay MASLOC. It\u2019s almost at the tail end of the whole arrangement. No matter what it is, first quarter of this year, this whole thing will come to an end,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the reason why the vehicles had taken long to be disbursed was because they had a problem with the prices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe problem we have was the prices, we thought that it will be difficult for people to afford and make any economic gains. If you are to consider the MPV of the whole project, it wouldn\u2019t be possible, feasible or appropriate to give them out because it will be difficult for them to pay,\u201d he said, adding that the stakeholders will soon take a conclusive decision on it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We can\u2019t cancel \u2018over-priced\u2019 cars deal now\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, Stephen Amoah, had earlier told <strong>Citi News<\/strong> his outfit <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/04\/we-cant-cancel-over-priced-cars-deal-now-masloc\/\"><strong>cannot immediately terminate<\/strong><\/a><\/span> the contract with MAC Autos &amp; Spare Parts Ghana Limited for the supply of 350 cars although they believe cost was inflated.<\/p>\n<p>He said a termination of the contract, which was signed under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, may result in the payment judgment a debt, hence the need to critically examine it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to move beyond the jurisdiction in terms of expertise. There is a legal component of the contract. If I don\u2019t take care and I throw everything away, I can let my government be sued.
