The exercise covered 6000 centres across the country.<\/p>\n
The exercise which started on August 3 was aimed at registering first time voters and Ghanaians who\u00a0\u00a0turned 18 after the 2012 general elections and adults who could not register during the previous registration exercises<\/p>\n
The two main political parties in the country, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), all suspended their campaign activities to monitor the registeration.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News<\/i><\/b>, the Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission in charge of Finance and Administration, Georgina Opoku Amankwah expressed satisfaction with the exercise but admitted that some challenges were encountered in some areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo far I have gone round some centers in the Greater Accra and Eastern region. Especially in the Greater Accra region most of the centers I went to, there were a lot of challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n
She \u00a0\u00a0later \u00a0praised the high turnout of women at the varrious registeration centers and admitted the exercise had been a successful.<\/p>\n
\u201cEspecially with women they are participating so I believe it is good,\u201d\u00a0 she said.<\/p>\n
