{"id":387586,"date":"2018-01-01T08:14:37","date_gmt":"2018-01-01T08:14:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=387586"},"modified":"2018-01-01T12:54:21","modified_gmt":"2018-01-01T12:54:21","slug":"yendi-youth-to-hold-march-in-support-of-eastern-corridor-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2018\/01\/yendi-youth-to-hold-march-in-support-of-eastern-corridor-region\/","title":{"rendered":"Yendi youth to hold march in support of Eastern Corridor region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A group calling itself the Coalition of Eastern Corridor Youth is beginning the New Year with a peaceful demonstration today [<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_34036126\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Monday],<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in Yendi.<\/p>\n<p>The upcoming event is to buttress their incessant requests for an Eastern Corridor enclave to be carved out of the Northern Region.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;nrPIakICvZmPwUpGu68QDY8Wcx78UQ0N&#8221;]The Acting Yendi Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Kwapong Patrick, told <strong>Citi News<\/strong> that his command was adequately prepared for the demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, some routes have been mapped out for the participants and their full compliance was expected.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Superintendent Kwapong Patrick also reiterated the need for residents of the area to remain law abiding.<\/p>\n<p>It would be recalled that the chiefs and people of the Eastern Corridor enclave on November 23, 2017, raised alarm over the area\u2019s exclusion from the sittings of the Commission of inquiry on the creation of new regions.<\/p>\n<p>At a Durbar in Yendi, they decried the area\u2019s exclusion from the list of regions under consideration.<\/p>\n<p>The Convener of the durbar, Peter Amana, earlier in a\u00a0<strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0interview, said they had made multiple\u00a0requests for a new region ahead of the 2016 polls.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized that some of the chiefs in their speeches, had reminded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo during his two \u201cThank you\u201d tours of the region.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Amana insisted that their proposal had no tribal or political undertones.<\/p>\n<p>The Dagbon Traditional Council on December 24, 2017,\u00a0 unanimously <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/12\/24\/you-cant-use-our-lands-for-eastern-corridor-region-dagbon-chiefs\/\"><strong>kicked against any attempt<\/strong><\/a><\/span> to include any part of the area in the creation of the proposed Eastern Corridor region.<\/p>\n<p>They arrived at a consensus on the matter at a meeting in Yendi chaired by the Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_3639274695581833404gmail-MsoNormal\">But a former Northern Regional Minister, Prince Imoro Andani, in a sharp rebuttal downplayed the Dagbon Traditional Council\u2019s caution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_3639274695581833404gmail-MsoNormal\">He told\u00a0<b>Citi News<\/b>\u00a0that the creation of the Eastern Corridor region was long overdue considering the vast nature of the Northern Region in terms of its land mass.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_3639274695581833404gmail-MsoNormal\">By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonline.com\/<wbr \/>Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A group calling itself the Coalition of Eastern Corridor Youth is beginning the New Year with a peaceful demonstration today [Monday],\u00a0in Yendi.
