He successfully marketed the position \u201cpresidential staffer\u201d and got many persons talking about it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\">So when a letter of appointment came for Charles Onuawonto Cromwell Bissue, Western Regional Secretary of the ruling NPP as presidential Staffer, several inhabitants of the region mostly NPP supporters were excited.<\/p>\n<p>Charles\u00a0Bissue was viewed as one of the hardworking NPP executives in the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\"><b>Five Chinese and five Ghanaians arrested on Ankobra River<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-387535\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Chinese.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"770\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Chinese.jpg 770w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Chinese-300x156.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Chinese-768x399.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\">Illegal mining was still ravaging havoc to the environment, particularly on the three major rivers in the region; River Pra, Ankobra and Tano.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\">The Chinese nationals had developed a ship-like vessel in the middle of the Ankobra River which served as the source of raw water for Ghana Water Company Limited for residents in Nzema East Municipal and the Ellembelle Districts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\">They were mining in the middle of the River. These 5 Chinese and their five Ghanaian counterparts were arrested and arraigned at a Sekondi High Court. Currently, all of them are on bail as the trial continues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\"><b>GHUMCO Gas explosion<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-387543\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Gas-explosion.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1040\" height=\"780\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Gas-explosion.jpeg 1040w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Gas-explosion-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Gas-explosion-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Gas-explosion-1024x768.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1040px) 100vw, 1040px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\">On May 9<span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">th<\/span>, the Western Regional capital of Sekondi-Takoradi was rocked with a gas explosion that occurred at about\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1374195865\"><span class=\"aQJ\">7:30am<\/span><\/span>\u00a0that\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1374195866\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Tuesday<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\">Over 180 people were injured, but no life was lost. Of the injured, 15 were staff of GHUMCO, 7 were firefighters from the regional fire department, 6 students and many other persons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\">The emergency preparedness of the Western Regional Hospital, Effia Nkwanta and other health facilities were tested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\">The company is yet to pay any compensation to the victims as had been promised.\u00a0 The company as at December 2017, still owes the Takoradi Government Hospital over Gh10,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\"><b>Wassa Akropong riots<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-387544\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Wassa.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"770\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Wassa.jpg 770w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Wassa-300x156.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Wassa-768x399.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\">Whist persons affected by the gas explosion were about getting off their sick bed in the region, Wassa Akropong, a town that was yet to come to terms with how illegal mining was taking away its vibrancy, as a Chinese Casino operator in the town Jian Gen Hai, reportedly shot and killed a 30-year old Ghanaian, Nana Boah, during a misunderstanding over payment for a job that had been done for the Chinese national.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\">The case was transferred to the Takoradi District Court where it was adjourned to 13<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0December 2017. The case was later adjourned to January 2018, after a plea for bail was not granted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\"><b>Splitting Western Region<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\">Another story that got the people of Western Region talking was when the processes to begin a possible split of the Region were commenced by the NPP government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8631423909423114326gmail-MsoNormal\">Consultations by the 9-member commission of enquiry first met petitioners for the split in Accra.
