{"id":386911,"date":"2017-12-28T07:41:33","date_gmt":"2017-12-28T07:41:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=386911"},"modified":"2017-12-28T07:41:33","modified_gmt":"2017-12-28T07:41:33","slug":"gsts-student-shooting-case-adjourned-to-jan-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/12\/gsts-student-shooting-case-adjourned-to-jan-12\/","title":{"rendered":"GSTS student shooting: Case adjourned to Jan. 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The case involving a final year GSTS student who was shot dead on Friday December 22 at Nyanikrom in the Shama District of the Western Region has been adjourned to January 12, 2018 by the Takoradi District Court.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;mV9w2aBHipFbjsL4c6Sygb0razCsMxXx&#8221;]The suspect, Detective Corporal Adjei Shaibu has also been taken into police custody at Sekondi.<\/p>\n<p>State Prosecutor Bernard Paa Ahinsan pleaded with the court, presided over by Thomas Ofidie, to grant them two weeks so the investigative team could finish gathering evidence relating to the incident.<\/p>\n<p>This request did not go down well with the counsel for the accused, Edmond Acquaah Arhin, who stated that the request for adjournment was against the rights of his client.<\/p>\n<p>However, the state prosecutor, Bernard Paa Ahinsan, pleaded with the court to adjourn the proceedings, stating that \u201ccounsel can request for the charge sheet and then study it for the next hearing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Corporal Shaibu last Saturday, <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/12\/23\/17-yr-old-gsts-student-allegedly-shot-dead-by-police-officer\/\"><strong>allegedly gunned down<\/strong><\/a><\/span> 17-year old, Lawrence Baidoo, after supposedly mistaking the deceased and his friends for armed robbers, while they were on their way to a concert.<\/p>\n<p>The second victim who sustained gunshot wounds and was admitted at the St. Benedict Hospital at Nchaban, has since been transferred to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for intensive care and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Shaibu reportedly opened fire on the five students when he came across them on their way to a rap concert at Shama Junction.<\/p>\n<p>One of the five students, Caroline Daddie, who narrated the incident to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, stated that the police officer, without any provocation, opened fire on them after he called them armed robbers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Obrempong Yaw Ampofo\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The case involving a final year GSTS student who was shot dead on Friday December 22 at Nyanikrom in the Shama District of the Western Region has been adjourned to January 12, 2018 by the Takoradi District Court.
