{"id":3868,"date":"2014-03-04T15:51:57","date_gmt":"2014-03-04T15:51:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=3868"},"modified":"2014-03-04T15:51:57","modified_gmt":"2014-03-04T15:51:57","slug":"universities-urged-to-establish-fire-stations-on-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/03\/universities-urged-to-establish-fire-stations-on-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"Universities urged to establish Fire Stations on campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Fire-Serivce-citifmonline.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3869\" alt=\"Fire Serivce  citifmonline\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Fire-Serivce-citifmonline-300x200.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Fire-Serivce-citifmonline-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Fire-Serivce-citifmonline.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The Central Regional Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO), John Amponsah Tetteh, has called on all universities and other tertiary institutions to establish fire stations on their campuses to ensure quick response to fire emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>He said this would ensure safety of students as well as the surrounding communities since their priority as a unit was to prevent and manage undesired fires from destroying lives and properties.<\/p>\n<p>ACFO Tetteh made the call during the inauguration of the University of Cape Coast Fire Station Office Annex.<\/p>\n<p>He said most of the students leave electrical appliances on when leaving for lectures and that most of the major fire outbreaks in the country were caused by unattended electrical appliances.<\/p>\n<p>ACFO Tetteh said the Fire Fender and Ambulance Office was made up of Watch\/ Control Room, Crew Room, Appliance Bay and a store\u00a0 to enhance efficiency as well as improve the challenge of office accommodation situation at the station since their offices were chocked.<\/p>\n<p>He said sensitization on fire prevention and management measures were being held across the country to help educate the general public to reduce or eradicate the increasing rate of fire outbreaks.<\/p>\n<p>He appealed to the public to report fire outbreaks as early as possible so that the command could put them out.<\/p>\n<p>ACFO Tetteh said some drivers did not respect sirens and that this hindered their easy movement to fire scenes adding that estate developers should create enough driving space for easy access of vehicles in case of any emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>He commended the Board of Directors of the University for their co-operation and especially for sponsoring three officers through the Fire Safety Course\u00a0 and appealed to them to assist the station with a utility vehicle to facilitate fire safety activities, reconnaissance, surveillance exercise, hydrant inspection and other official activities.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice Chancellor of the UCC, Professor Domwini Dabire Kuupole, commended the Ghana National Fire Service for their initiative and effort in ensuring the safety of the university.<\/p>\n<p>He said this had raised the moral of the staff and will considerably improve performance at the station.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: GNA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Regional Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO), John Amponsah Tetteh, has called on all universities and other tertiary institutions to establish fire stations on their campuses to ensure quick response to fire emergencies.
