The Ghana Health Service says over 37 suspected Ebola patients in the country have, so far, all tested negative for the disease.<\/p>\n
The Director of the Disease Surveillance Unit of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Badu Sarkodie, confirmed that all tests conducted on suspected cases of the deadly disease had been negative.<\/p>\n
He told Citi News<\/b> that the way the Ghana Health Service handled the suspected cases of Ebola was ample proof of the preparedness of the nation\u2019s health\u00a0\u00a0 system to deal with an outbreak of the disease.<\/p>\n
Over 900 people have, so far, \u00a0died from Ebola in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and most recently Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Although Ghana is yet to officially record a case of the disease, fears have grown in recent times following sporadic reports of patients hospitalized with symptoms similar to those of Ebola.<\/p>\n
On Monday, Citi News<\/b>, reported that health personnel at the Tamale Teaching Hospital had bolted after a patient with Ebola-like symptoms had arrived at the hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
The incident has raised questions about the readiness of the health services in the Northern part of the country to deal with the disease.<\/p>\n
However, Dr. Sarkodie has assured the general public that they have put measures in place, including \u201c the establishment of three isolation areas in Tema for the southern zone, Kumasi for the middle zone \u00a0and Tamale for the Northern zone,\u201d to effectively deal with an outbreak.<\/p>\n
