A\u00a0Ghanaian Youth activist, Ahmed Bening, has been elected as the deputy General Secretary of the\u00a0Pan African Youth Union (PYU).<\/p>\n
The election was held at the 5th Ordinary Congress of the Pan African Youth Union (PYU) in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.<\/p>\n
Following his victory, Ahmed Bening thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,\u00a0the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, and the CEO of the National Youth Authority,\u00a0Emmanuel Asigri for their support.<\/p>\n
He will serve in the position for a period of three years from 2018 to 2020.<\/p>\n
He also thanked Ghanaians and the youth, in particular for the unwavering support and confidence they reposed in him throughout his campaign for the position.<\/p>\n
Ahmed Bening promised to help the Union implement the AU 2017 theme road-map, create opportunities for the Youth, particularly in the West African sub-region, and raise high the flag of Ghana by championing the Youth Agenda in Ghana.<\/p>\n
“I will use this opportunity to raise high the flag of Ghana in Africa and the World through cooperation, collaboration and employment-driven opportunities for the youth in Ghana and beyond,” he said.<\/p>\n
The PYU is a continental platform of youth organizations with the mission to work for the realization and reinforcement of the ideals and values of the African Union.<\/p>\n
The theme for this year’s Congress,\u00a0which is held every three years, was \u201cYouth facing the Socioeconomic Challenges of Africa\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Congress was to enable the PYU recall and clarify its historical importance in the social and political sphere of the continent, as well as discuss issues affecting the union and identify ways to address them.<\/p>\n
The Ghanaian delegation was headed by the Deputy CEO of the National Youth Authority, Bright Acheampong, a Deputy Communications Director to the President, Miss Fatimatu Abubakar, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem North, Dennis Aboagye and Mr.\u00a0Bening.<\/p>\n
