The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has indefinitely suspended its re-opening date over what it describes as ” Ebola scare in the West African Region.”<\/p>\n

The suspension, according to authorities of the school is to also\u201cenable the university prepare adequately for re-opening in view of the University Teachers\u2019 Association of Ghana’s (UTAG) industrial action.”<\/p>\n

UTAG in July declared an indefinite strike over the non-payment of their book and research allowances.<\/p>\n

UTAG\u2019s strike was motivated by what it considered as government\u2019s decision to unduly delay the payment of their allowances.<\/p>\n

The University of Cape Coast last week announced it had postponed its re-opening date indefinitely due to UTAG’s strike.<\/p>\n

Below is the full statement from KNUST<\/b><\/p>\n

It is announced for the information of the University Community and the General Public that the Date for the Reopening of the University for the 2014\/2015 Academic Year has been suspended indefinitely.<\/p>\n

The suspension is to enable the University to prepare adequately for reopening in view of the University Teachers\u2019 Association of Ghana (UTAG) Industrial Action and the Ebola Scare in the West Africa Region.\u00a0 Students are advised to hold themselves in readiness for the new Dates which may come at short Notice.<\/p>\n

The cooperation of all Members of the University Community is appreciated.<\/p>\n
