{"id":384334,"date":"2017-12-18T15:58:14","date_gmt":"2017-12-18T15:58:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=384334"},"modified":"2017-12-18T18:39:56","modified_gmt":"2017-12-18T18:39:56","slug":"3-arrested-over-bantama-gang-rape-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/12\/3-arrested-over-bantama-gang-rape-video\/","title":{"rendered":"3 arrested over Bantama &#8216;gang-rape&#8217; video"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police in the Ashanti Region have picked up three young men believed to have taken part in an alleged gang rape of a teenage girl, a video of which has gone viral on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Many\u00a0Ghanaians are outraged over the viral video in which about seven young men, were seen forcibly having sex with the teenager.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;N3JWjqaPbFr9mcTI5mpYNJQUUBcs83OH&#8221;]The video has been circulating on social media for close to 24 hours with the young men taking turns to rape the teenager.<\/p>\n<p>The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU)\u00a0 of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has invited the 18-year old victim to assist in investigations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News<\/strong> sources say the victim is currently at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital undergoing medical examination. The incident occurred at Bantama in Kumasi.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News,<\/strong> Assembly Member for the Bantama Electoral area, Kwame Ofori, asked the Police to bring the culprits to book in order to serve as a deterrent to others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is true that the incident occurred, and as the Assembly man, I urge various stakeholders not to take this issue lightly. I am very shocked by this incident because I never thought it could happen. I am following up on this case keenly. I urge the Police Service to take up this matter and thoroughly investigate it. The punishment handed out to the culprits should serve as a deterrent to others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Police investigates \u2018gang rape\u2019 video,\u00a0cautions against circulation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Police say they are on a manhunt to arrest other members of the gang, while investigation into the incident continues.<\/p>\n<p>The National Headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, indicated in a <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/12\/18\/police-investigates-gang-rape-video-cautions-against-circulation\/\">statement<\/a><\/strong><\/span> that, it had taken a \u201cserious view\u201d of the incident, and has\u00a0constituted a special investigative team to look into the matter, and identify the suspects for the necessary legal actions.<\/p>\n<p>The statement also asked various media houses and those in possession of the video to \u201cstop circulating it since it is an offence to circulate such obscene materials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnybody with any relevant information should personally report to the Cyber Crime Unit of the CID Headquarters for further action,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Hafiz Tijani\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Police in the Ashanti Region have picked up three young men believed to have taken part in an alleged gang rape of a teenage girl, a video of which has gone viral on social media.
