Three \u2018controversial\u2019 proposals submitted for amendment in the governing\u00a0New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) constitution have been withdrawn.<\/p>\n
This was revealed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in an address at the party\u2019s extraordinary delegates\u2019 conference ongoing in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”TrzNRqoY1NXqKcUxXF8VCumOw9Uw0F5k”]President Akufo-Addo while addressing the thousands of delegates gathered from various parts of the country and the party\u2019s branches in other countries, said some of the proposed amendments \u201cwill be a disaster\u201d if adopted.<\/p>\n
His remark was reiterated by the majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu who stated that two of the parliamentary group\u2019s proposals would be withdrawn.<\/p>\n
The proposals are;<\/p>\n
Disagreement over amendments<\/strong><\/p>\n There had been some disagreements over some of the proposals after they were made through an\u00a011-member committee, chaired by\u00a0First Vice Chairman, F.F. Antoh.<\/p>\n The NPP-USA branch for instance\u00a0kicked against the proposal to disqualify persons with dual citizenship from contesting any party position.<\/p>\n In a strong-worded statement, it accused some persons in the party of hijacking the constitutional review process.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the acting National Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay, has called on delegates to ensure that they resolve any lingering issues they might have before they leave the Conference.<\/p>\n Mr. Blay said the NPP can take a step closer to retaining power in the 2020 general elections if the Conference is conducted in a peaceful manner.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Jonas Nyabor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Three \u2018controversial\u2019 proposals submitted for amendment in the governing\u00a0New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) constitution have been withdrawn.
