{"id":382749,"date":"2017-12-12T18:33:02","date_gmt":"2017-12-12T18:33:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=382749"},"modified":"2017-12-12T18:45:50","modified_gmt":"2017-12-12T18:45:50","slug":"metro-tv-back-air-closure-unpaid-taxes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/12\/metro-tv-back-air-closure-unpaid-taxes\/","title":{"rendered":"Metro TV back on air after closure over unpaid taxes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Accra-based television station Metro TV has been reopened after it was <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/12\/12\/gra-shuts-metro-tv-unpaid-taxes\/\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>earlier shut down<\/strong><\/span><\/a> by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) over their\u00a0failure to pay their taxes.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GRA,\u00a0Kwesi Bobbie Ansah the station had been closed down due to some &#8220;outstanding tax liabilities&#8221; adding that the Agency had taken &#8220;the necessary actions&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He, however,\u00a0stated on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong> that the station had &#8220;made the necessary arrangements to settle their tax liabilities&#8221; resulting in them being allowed to resume their broadcast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Metro TV off air<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A visit by <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong> to the Cantonment premises of the television station had earlier revealed\u00a0that the GRA had restricted entry into the company with a seal of the Commissioner General.<\/p>\n<p>The premises of the station was locked up, with the building cordoned off with yellow tape.<\/p>\n<p>Checks also revealed that the station went off air\u00a0for a few minutes but is now broadcasting again.<\/p>\n<p>GRA has recently begun cracking down on companies that have failed to fulfill their tax obligations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-382712\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Metro2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"578\" height=\"425\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of Ghana\u2019s busiest commercial centres, the Accra Mall was <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/29\/accra-mall-escapes-closure-over-taxes\/\"><strong>almost closed down<\/strong><\/a> in November by the GRA for owning over 2 million cedis in unpaid tax arrears, however, swift intervention from the managers of the facility averted the situation.<\/p>\n<p>The move was triggered after the company failed to pay the said taxes despite an expiration of the deadline about two months ago.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-382711\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Metro1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"595\" height=\"397\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The amount, which is taxes owed in VAT, also followed an audit of the operations of the management of the mall by the GRA.<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear exactly how much\u00a0 Metro TV owes and whether they were also given time to pay off the arrears.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-382710\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Metro-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"581\" height=\"314\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Accra-based television station Metro TV has been reopened after it was earlier shut down by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) over their\u00a0failure to pay their taxes.
