{"id":382596,"date":"2017-12-12T08:45:56","date_gmt":"2017-12-12T08:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=382596"},"modified":"2017-12-12T08:45:56","modified_gmt":"2017-12-12T08:45:56","slug":"eoco-probes-agt-microfinance-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/12\/eoco-probes-agt-microfinance-company\/","title":{"rendered":"EOCO probes AGT Microfinance Company"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has taken over a case involving AGT Microfinance over the company\u2019s inability to pay customers whose investments are due.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi Business News<\/strong>\u00a0understands the management has since been compelled to make some commitments in settling the affected customers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi Business News\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0checks at the central bank show that this issue has been going on for at least the past one year.<\/p>\n<p>The challenge has also been attributed to the management decision to diversify its operations.<\/p>\n<p>The locked up money is estimated to be in tens of thousands of Ghana cedis.<\/p>\n<p>These angry customers who thronged the premises of AGT Microfinance expressed their frustration to\u00a0<strong>Citi Business News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince July every time I come here, they will tell me one story or the other. Last time I came here and I had a problem with them and they gave me a phone number to call but every time I call it they tell me one story or another,\u201d a frustrated customer said.<\/p>\n<p>They also say they are owed to the tune of 15,200 cedis altogether.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last time I came here they gave me twenty cedis I wanted to collect two hundred cedis and they gave me only twenty cedis\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another aggrieved customer said, \u201cthey are owing me more than fifteen thousand Ghana cedis so later they said they will write our names down and give us a call when the money comes but up till now they haven\u2019t called me\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Even though the company is still in operation,\u00a0<strong>Citi Business News<\/strong>\u00a0understands that it is only involved in collecting unpaid loans and to fulfill the agreement with EOCO to settle all outstanding claims by liquidating the assets of AGT Microfinance.<\/p>\n<p>The BoG also explains that the company has since been restricted from taking fresh deposits.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, efforts by Citi Business News to reach the management team of AGT Microfinance Company for a response, have been unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Jessica Ayorkor Aryee\/Pius Amihere Eduku\/citibusinessnews.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has taken over a case involving AGT Microfinance over the company\u2019s inability to pay customers whose investments are due.
