{"id":379312,"date":"2017-12-01T14:54:48","date_gmt":"2017-12-01T14:54:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=379312"},"modified":"2017-12-01T14:56:14","modified_gmt":"2017-12-01T14:56:14","slug":"military-demolishes-over-30-shops-at-kanda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/12\/military-demolishes-over-30-shops-at-kanda\/","title":{"rendered":"Military demolishes over 30 shops at Kanda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over 30 shops sited near the premises of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) at Kanda in the Greater Accra Region have been pulled down.<\/p>\n<p>These structures were bulldozed in a controlled demolition exercise which was under the supervision of about\u00a015 armed military\u00a0personnel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-379325 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"665\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-2.jpg 998w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-2-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-2-768x416.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some traders, who were unhappy with the exercise by the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Water Company, complained that they had not been given enough time to vacate the premises before their structures were demolished.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, a dissatisfied trader said: \u201cYou give people three days to leave&#8230; This is unfair! We went to see the MD and there was an undertaking signed by the MD that they will give us three months to move and just imagine at dawn, I was called that they had demolished the place so what is the purpose of the undertaking?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-379328\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"698\" height=\"347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-5.jpg 1086w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-5-300x149.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-5-768x382.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-5-1024x509.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 698px) 100vw, 698px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Ghana Water Company has however defended the demolition.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the Public Relations Officer at the GWCL, Kwamena Acquah said the demolition was in accordance with an order from the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-379327 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"698\" height=\"376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-4.jpg 1003w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-4-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Demolition-4-768x413.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 698px) 100vw, 698px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese structures have been here for sometime and all attempts to evacuate them have proved futile so the issue was settled in court and the Supreme Court gave the ruling in favour of Ghana Water Company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Ansah &amp; Naa\u00a0Kwaamah\u00a0Siaw-Marfo\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over 30 shops sited near the premises of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) at Kanda in the Greater Accra Region have been pulled down.
