The Operations Manager of collateral management company, Ecosafe Ghana Limited, Maxwell Osei Owusu, has been put before an Accra Circuit for allegedly stealing various amounts of money belonging to a banking investment company, EM Capital Partners Limited.<\/p>\n
Mr. Osei Owusu is reported to have stolen various sums of money amounting to over GHc 20,000 and has been charged with stealing and the threat of harm.<\/p>\n
According to the facts put out by the prosecution, Ecosafe\u00a0is a collateral management company that operates warehouse services in Tema and is owned by Samuel Owusu, father of the accused.<\/p>\n
EM Capital invested in various corporate bonds issued by Ecosafe from 2011 to March 2015 and failed to pay back the matured corporate bonds to the tune of GHc10.7 million that had been before an Accra high court.<\/p>\n
The court subsequently froze all Ecosafe bank accounts and also ordered that the properties of the company be auctioned.<\/p>\n
The prosecution said Maxwell, being aware of the suit and the judgment of the court, \u00a0went to the tenants of the warehouses, threatened them and got them to issue cheques for rent for the use of the warehouses.<\/p>\n
In the process, the accused collected the aforementioned cheques issued in the name of Ecosafe with the said face values and paid same into his personal account at Royal Bank.<\/p>\n
Various attempts by the complainant to get Maxwell to explain why he paid the cheques into his bank account were met with insults and threatening words.<\/p>\n
The presiding judge, Malike Woanyah, after the hearing of the facts of the case granted the accused person bail in the sum of GHC 50,000 with two sureties, one to be justified.<\/p>\n
As part of the bail condition, he is also to drop his passport with the registrar of the court and report to the police every two weeks.<\/p>\n
