<\/p>\nA group calling itself the Concerned Youth of Akrofufu in the Eastern Region, are unhappy with their Assembly Member for allegedly disrespecting their chief, and have thus vowed to ensure his removal from the Assembly.<\/p>\n
The youth group complained that the Assembly Member, Stephen Kwaku Nyarko, has also failed to account for money allocated to him to undertake development projects.<\/p>\n
They claim that Mr. Nyarko has not been able to substantiate some allegations he made against the Chief and elders of Akrofufu on some media platforms.<\/p>\n
According to them, the Assembly Member has shown\u00a0gross disrespect to the chief, Osabarima Adigye Gyamfi, and elders of the Akrofufu traditional council, and has disgraced them, and by extension the entire Akrofufu community.<\/p>\n

The group led by Kwesi Baah Wiredu, made their grievances known when the Chief, Osabarima Gyamfi, called a general meeting and demanded accountability from all opinion leaders who had been given to funds to embark on development projects in the area.<\/p>\n
A heated argument ensued between the youth group and some sympathizers of the Assembly Member, after the youth realized the he had allegedly embezzled about GH\u20b578,000.00 of monies collected from mining companies in the area with the intention of using it for developmental projects when it was his time to render accounts.<\/p>\n
The group leader, Wiredu, stated how he personally witnessed some amounts collected from some illegal miners for construction of water projects, though the chief disapproved of the illegal mining activity in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Assembly Member since he won power has not organized any community meeting to brief us before and after Assembly sittings, but he tries to gain autonomy over our chiefs and elders to collect monies from mining companies on behalf of the community. I have been there when miners gave him money to be used for developmental projects. some also called me to inform me they have sent their money to him but he could not account for those monies today\u201d.<\/p>\n
The youth vowed to forward their petition to the presiding member of the Atiwa District Assembly for him to be impeached.<\/p>\n
“We want our Assembly Member to do the honourable thing and calmly step down or we will be forced to send our petition to the District Chief Executive. From all the revelations here today, we realize we can not trust him with anything”.<\/p>\n
The Chief of Akrofufu, Osabarima Gyamfi whilst addressing the durbar, said the declaration of the community\u2019s financial status was necessary to address the numerous defamatory publications in the media.<\/p>\n
“I called today’s meeting to set the records straight with regards to our finances. I have been accused and defamed by the assembly member in some media houses accusing me of embezzlement of the community revenue so today every one who has been assigned or who has been entrusted with community money will come and justify how they spent the money allocated to them”.<\/p>\n
The Assembly Member, who took his turn failed to substantiate the claims made against the chief and his elders, and also failed to provide answers to questions directed at him by miners who claimed to have personally given him monies for the community, although he didn not mention that during his submissions.<\/p>\n
This infuriated the concerned youth of Akrofufu who wanted to force him to step down as the assembly member immediately.<\/p>\n
Osabarima Adigye Gyamfi who was disappointed, revealed how several attempts to get the assembly member to “honour several invitations to the palace proved futile.<\/p>\n
He said the Assembly Member has since not been on talking terms with\u00a0 him and his elders, “after he went on radio to make those wild allegations against me, but now you are all witnesses to what really happened”.<\/p>\n
He added that”the former District Chief Executive for Atiwa, Atta Twum, in an attempt to resolve the issue about one year ago, demanded that the assembly member renders an unqualified apology to me, purify my stool with four sheep, eight bottles of schnapps and an unqualified apology to the traditional council as well, but I reduced it to only one sheep and a bottle of schnapps thinking he will be okay with that and come and make amends but still he disrespected and disregarded tradition”.<\/p>\n
He therefore gave him a one-week ultimatum to report to the palace and purify the stool.<\/p>\n
“I am giving you just a week to come and do the necessary things at the palace, I know you are also concern about the well-being of Akrofufu, so for the sake of peace and development come and do what you are supposed to do for peace to prevail”.<\/p>\n
The assembly Member, Stephen Kwaku Nyarko, who spoke to the media after the meeting, agreed to honour the chief\u2019s summons with the items requested to purify him and make peace with the elders.<\/p>\n
“For the sake of peace and development of Akrofufu I will go to the palace and perform the necessary rites to purify the chief, but one week ultimatum from the chief will be a bit of a challenge because I was thinking he would have given me the chance to tell him when the items will be ready. I am a Christian and I believe in prayers so I will take it into prayers”.<\/p>\n
Stephen Kwaku Nyarko vehemently denied misusing amount he had received from the miners, explaining that he used all money collected from the illegal miners to provide water, electricity and other projects for the community.<\/p>\n
“I was told sometime ago to generate my own money to run my office, every money I have taken from the toilet has been sent to the district assembly and every money that I chanced upon has been used for developmental projects”.<\/p>\n
