A report by\u00a0research network, Afrobarometer, has revealed that Ghanaians are more confident in the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s ability to fight corruption than other recent administrations.<\/p>\n
In the 2014\u00a0Afrobarometer report<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0\u00a064 percent of respondents in the survey conducted\u00a0by Afrobarometer\u00a0thought that corruption had increased.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”DL1KGQd9q4uEZV5lPsH11K6iM4JZrrO7″]The Round 7 report launched by the Center for Democratic Development (CDD also said 20 percent of Ghanaians did not believe in the capability of the political system at the time, to fight corruption.<\/p>\n However, in the new report, most Ghanaians have expressed increased confidence in the government\u2019s anti-corruption efforts.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is a rise in public confidence in government\u2019s efforts to combat corruption in 2017, compared to 2014. This is after over a decade of decline,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n ‘Name, shame and prosecute corrupt officials’<\/strong><\/p>\n According to the research group,\u00a0 64\u2105 of Ghanaians want the government to name, shame and prosecute<\/a><\/strong><\/span> officials who have misappropriated state funds.<\/p>\n It also stated that most Ghanaians want the government to recover funds which were pocketed by these state officials.<\/p>\n According to the report, successive governments had only demonstrated the eagerness to prosecute members of opposition parties who had served in past administrations, while ignoring corrupt practices perpetrated by its own members.<\/p>\n
