The exercise, which lasted for about five hours, demonstrated the tactical and intellectual preparedness of the security services in dealing with any potential terrorist attack.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The simulated scenario was to mimic a real live terrorist attack at a hotel resort at Nungua in the Greater Accra Region.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media after the exercise, the Director of Counter-Terrorism of National Security, Retired COP George Asiamah, said the exercise was part of numerous capacity building activities lined up to boost the morale of security personnel in the wake of terrorist attacks in neighbouring countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a training exercise for all of us; the security agencies, the emergency, the general public and the media because the media was also even given some training on how to respond to terrorist activities.<\/p>\n

“We told you that you [the media] are our allies,\u201d COP George Asiamah added.<\/p>\n

He also indicated that, several of such exercises will be rolled out to strengthen the agencies, and admonished the general public to report suspected cases of crime or terrorism to the security agencies.<\/p>\n

Canada, UK issues terror attack alert in Ghana<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Canadian and US governments<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0had recently issued terror alert to its citizens traveling to Ghana.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a threat of terrorism. Terrorist targets could include shopping malls, government buildings, public areas such as bars, restaurants, hotels and sites frequented by Westerners. Be aware of your surroundings in public places,\u201d a notice posted by the Canadian government in August added.<\/p>\n

Man arrested for false terror alert at Accra Mall<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Ghana Police on November 3, 2017,\u00a0arrested a 30-year-old<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0suspect in connection with a false terrorist attack alert at the Accra Mall.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe suspect was arrested in his hideout at Offinso in the Ashanti Region on 1st November, 2017, and is currently assisting Police in investigations,\u201d the Police said in a statement.<\/p>\n
