A flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Asamoah\u2013Boateng has criticized government over its decision to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a financial bailout.<\/p>\n
According to the former Minister under the erstwhile Kufuor administration government made a mistake by rushing to the IMF when there are people in this country who can help the nation address the current economic situation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen they are in difficulty their only solution is to go outside and get help, you don\u2019t run out for help when you have all the help in the house, sadly that is what President Mahama is doing,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
President John Dramani Mahama after a meeting with his Economic Advisory Committee directed that immediate initiatives be taken to open discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in support of Ghana\u2019s \u201cprogramme for stabilization and growth\u201d.<\/p>\n
But the NPP flagbearer hopeful insists that \u201cgoing to the IMF is a completely wrong route\u201d.<\/p>\n
He further advised government to refrain from always seeking help from outsiders when there are experts and resourceful people in Ghana and \u201ceven in his own party\u201d to help him.<\/p>\n
Mr. Asamoah-Boateng also downplayed President Mahama\u2019s recent ministerial reshuffle describing it as merely \u201ccosmetic\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve seen some changes in the cabinet but it\u2019s cosmetic\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press briefing organized to update the media on his campaign Stephen Asamoah-Boateng also called for the scrapping off of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) and the institution of a new development agenda called the Volta-Oti plan.<\/p>\n
