<\/p>\nAs part of measures to provide prompt assistance and services to accident victims on the Accra-Kumasi Highway, the National Fire Service today [Wednesday] commissioned a Fire Station at Bunso in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n
The new station brings to 24, the total number of fire stations in the 26 districts in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n

The Eastern Regional Fire Commander, ACFO Joshua Nguah in an interview with Citi News<\/strong> stated that the carnage on the Accra-Kumasi Highway recorded on a daily basis contributed to the decision to establish the Fire Station for accident victims to be attended to promptly.<\/p>\n “When I took over the command I realized the carnage on the Accra-Kumasi Highway was overwhelming, we always had to deploy fire tenders from the Regional command to the highway during emergencies and the distance from Koforidua to this place is not favourable,” he said.<\/p>\n “When it comes to rescue, it should be in the golden period – that is the first 20 minutes of any incident. We know Bunso is a hotspot so we want to be close enough to tackle every action and provide timely services”.<\/p>\n ACFO Joshua Nguah advised drivers and other road users to exercise restraint and adhere to all road regulations.<\/p>\n “The establishment of this fire station here does not mean drivers should get accidents, it doesn’t give them the license to do whatever they want. Our presence here is to swiftly provide services to everybody in need of our service. I will therefore use this opportunity to advise drivers to adhere to all road regulations and safety measures on the roads, we do not want to lose anyone, every life matters so stay safe.”<\/p>\n The assembly member of Bunso, Nicholas Awugya who initiated the construction of the fire station believes a lot of human lives will be saved due to its establishment.<\/p>\n “The siting of the fire station [at Bunso] has come at a good time because we are almost in the festive season where a lot of people ply this highway. We record over 200 deaths yearly on this particular stretch of the highway,” he noted.<\/p>\n “Sometimes we have to call the fire service from Koforidua to come and cut through mangled vehicles for us to save people who are trapped in them after being involved in accidents and because of the distance it becomes too late to save people. So I am extremely happy and confident that a lot of lives will be saved due to the presence of the fire service here now.”<\/p>\n The Chief of Bunso Osabarima Ofori, who expressed his appreciation for the construction of the fire station, also called on government to establish an ambulance service station at Bunso to complement the efforts of the fire station.<\/p>\n “Am indeed proud to live to see this day, finally Bunso has its own fire station and we are happy and proud of everyone who helped in making the fire station a reality,” he said.<\/p>\n “I know that the fire station here will help residents of Bunso and road users who ply the Accra Kumasi Highway by providing timely services when called upon but I must say the absence of an Ambulance service station here is also a major concern”.<\/p>\n Osabarima Ofori added, “We all know the important role the Ambulance service plays in the country, the fire service cannot do the work alone so on behalf of the people of Bunso am pleading with government and other civil societies to come and help us with an Ambulance Station here to complement the efforts of the fire service in saving lives and properties”.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Neil Nii Amatey Kanarku\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" As part of measures to provide prompt assistance and services to accident victims on the Accra-Kumasi Highway, the National Fire Service today [Wednesday] commissioned a Fire Station at Bunso in the Eastern Region.
