{"id":376194,"date":"2017-11-21T23:16:40","date_gmt":"2017-11-21T23:16:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=376194"},"modified":"2017-11-22T06:19:31","modified_gmt":"2017-11-22T06:19:31","slug":"history-will-remember-heroic-mugabe-kindly-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/history-will-remember-heroic-mugabe-kindly-mahama\/","title":{"rendered":"History will remember heroic Mugabe kindly \u2013 Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seems former President John Mahama is not enthused about the turn of events in Zimbabwe after the president of that country, Robert Mugabe, resigned from the position, ending his 37-year-long leadership.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/21\/zimbabwes-president-mugabe-resigns\/\"><strong>Mugabe resigned on Tuesday<\/strong><\/a><\/span> after an impeachment process was triggered in the country\u2019s Parliament to have him removed from office.<\/p>\n<p>In a Facebook post\u00a0commenting on the matter, John Mahama described Mugabe as a liberation hero, a patriot and a great Pan Africanist, stating that history will &#8220;remember him kindly&#8221;.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_196004\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-196004\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-196004 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Mugabe-new-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"371\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-196004\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Robert Mugabe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<blockquote><p>A sad ending for a liberation hero, a patriot and a great Pan Africanist. History will remember Comrade Mugabe kindly &#8211;\u00a0 John Mahama posted.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FJDMahama%2Fposts%2F1819196751424806&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"415\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nMr. Mugabe had previously refused to resign despite last week\u2019s military takeover and days of protests against him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beginning of Mugabe\u2019s woes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What triggered the moves to oust Mugabe was his dismissal of Emmerson Mnangagwa as vice-president two weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>That decision was seen by many as clearing the way for Mr. Mugabe\u2019s wife, Grace, to succeed her husband as leader.<\/p>\n<p>It riled the military leadership, who stepped in and put Mr. Mugabe under house arrest.
