{"id":374713,"date":"2017-11-17T14:21:10","date_gmt":"2017-11-17T14:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=374713"},"modified":"2017-11-17T14:28:07","modified_gmt":"2017-11-17T14:28:07","slug":"gbc-releases-seized-ecg-vehicle-after-police-intervention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/gbc-releases-seized-ecg-vehicle-after-police-intervention\/","title":{"rendered":"GBC releases seized ECG vehicle after police intervention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The management of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, has released a vehicle belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) which it seized on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Staff of GBC forcibly took possession of the vehicle after a disagreement with personnel of ECG, who drove to their premises on Thursday evening, to <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/17\/ashanti-gbc-disconnected-by-ecg-over-ghc-1-7m-debt\/\">disconnect the company <\/a><\/strong><\/span>from the national grid over their indebtedness.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;eLPx6AsrGpuxT6ltZx0stlRCbUABn9R9&#8243;] Personnel of ECG and the police inspected the seized vehicle before ECG was allowed to move it.<\/p>\n<p>It was reported that the staff, supervised by their Regional Director, <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/17\/gbc-staff-deflate-tyres-of-ecg-vehicle-over-disconnection\/http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/17\/gbc-staff-deflate-tyres-of-ecg-vehicle-over-disconnection\/\">deflated the tyres of the vehicle<\/a><\/strong><\/span> that transported staff for the exercise, and blocked it from moving out of the premises.<\/p>\n<p>But the management of GBC has denied the claim.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-374722\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/ECG-vehicle-2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1040\" height=\"780\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ashanti Regional Director of the GBC, Sam Kwatia, who lodged an official complaint about the incident at the Asokwa District Police Command, said the ECG workers had\u00a0unlawfully entered GBC&#8217;s premises to\u00a0carry out the disconnection exercise.<\/p>\n<p>GBC is said to be indebted to ECG up to the tune of GHS1.75 million.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Relations Officer of ECG in the Ashanti Region, Erasmus Baidoo, told <strong>Citi News\u2019<\/strong> Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Hafiz Tijani, that several efforts had been made to retrieve the money amicably, but to no avail, lamenting that the amount was ballooning and that they needed to act as its been done with other power consumers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-374724\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/ECG-vehicle-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1040\" height=\"780\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe went to GBC to demand payment. This is not the first time, we\u2019ve been there on a number of occasions and anytime we go there, we do not receive anything. We decided to take them off, in an attempt to disconnect them, the manager in charge of the area felt that he wouldn\u2019t allow us so they deflated the tires of the vehicle that we took to the place. They also used a vehicle to block our vehicle so that we will not leave the place\u2026.
