A 44-year-old electrician who is alleged to have repeatedly defiled his biological daughter for the past two years has been arrested by the police.<\/p>\n
The suspect, whose name was given as Solomon Addae Mensah, was arrested after the victim had confided in her class teacher about what she had been going through.<\/p>\n
The teacher, who heard the graphic details of the lewd acts and sexual abuse the junior high school (JHS) student had been going through, immediately informed the Kaneshie Division of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.<\/p>\n
According to the police, the suspect usually threatened his daughter with a gun and gave her a whitish substance believed to be a narcotic drug before having canal knowledge of her.<\/p>\n
Police investigations also showed that the girl had assault marks all over her body, while there was a discharge from her private parts.<\/p>\n
The Kaneshie Division Coordinator of DOVVSU, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ms Anita Abrakwa, said on July 11, 2014, the victim, in the company of her class teacher and some members of the school administration, informed the police about what the girl had been going through at the hands of her father.<\/p>\n
She said the victim, whose mother died when she was seven years, lived in the same house with her father and her stepmother in the Kaneshie Estates.<\/p>\n
After the victim\u2019s mother died, she lived with a family friend until she was 11, when her father went for her to live with him.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut as soon as she moved in with her father, he started having canal knowledge of her under threat,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
According to Ms Abrakwa, \u201cthe victim said she had been subjected to many sexual bouts since she was 11 but her father had put fear in her not to inform anyone\u201d.<\/p>\n
He was said to have threatened to kill his daughter and dump her body in a manhole if she ever told anyone about the act.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut the victim, after one of those sexual assaults, could not bear the pain and threats any longer and reported her ordeal to her teacher,\u201d the DOVVSU coordinator added.<\/p>\n
Medical report<\/p>\n
The victim produced a torn panties which she said was the handiwork of her father as he attempted to force her into having sex with him.<\/p>\n
Ms Abrakwa said a medical report form was immediately issued to the victim and an examination at the Police Hospital indicated that her hymen was absent.<\/p>\n
She said when the police searched the residence of the suspect, the gun he had allegedly been using to threaten his daughter could not be found, but a mask was retrieved.<\/p>\n
The suspect has since been charged with defilement, incest and assault.<\/p>\n
During interrogation, he admitted assaulting his daughter but denied defiling her.<\/p>\n
On the advice of the Social Welfare Department, the victim now lives with her class teacher until the court decides on the case.<\/p>\n
